A Lovely Interpretation of the New York Lake District
Upstate New York Lake is a prime example of Andrew Bunner’s ability to capture the nuances of light, color and a sense of place. Bunner was a master of traditional realistic painting and renowned for his landscapes and marine paintings as seen here in the lovely atmospheric quality of a serene evening at a lake in upstate New York.
Andrew Fisher Bunner was born in 1841 in New York City. He studied art in New York and spent a great deal of time in Europe. His career included extended travels in France, Holland, Germany and Italy. He lived in Venice from 1883-1886. He never became completely expatriated, however, retaining his strongest ties to the United States.
Bunner exhibited many of his works in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Paris Salon, and the National Academy of Design. He was a member of the Academy and the American Watercolor Society. Bunner’s work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art.
